When travelling there is something to be said for turning away from the traditional hotels and trying something a little different. Waking up in a room that has been around since the 1500’s makes the day seem a little more interesting. Thankfully, when travelling in Europe this opportunity is pretty much just around every corner.
On a recent trip to the Loire Valley we had the good fortune to visit and stay in Le Chateau de Nazelle. The château has looked out over the Loire Valley for over 500 years and as you stand on the edge of the garden and look out over the valley you can’t help but think who else has stood there and what they saw.
The château is now run as a bed and breakfast and offers a wide variety of amenities for the weary traveler. We stayed in the Maja & Mathilda Suites which are dug into the limestone side of the hill. The light stone and large windows keep the rooms from seeming too dark but they are cool and comfortable.
Also a thrill is the limestone swimming pool dug out of the hill. The water was very cool but the swim was one of those once in a lifetime moments.
It is definitely a place we will return to and highly recommend it to anyone heading to the area.

Beautiful pics and that sounds like a pretty amazing pool.

This sounds like a terrific experience! Definitely something I’d check out when I make my way to France!
